Super hotel til rimelig pris.

Fantastisk hotel med rigtig god beliggenhed. Rigtig god service. Vi havde bestilt et værelser med havudsigt og det fik vi. Simpelthen en panorama udsigt. Morgenmadsbuffeten var virkelig god. Alt hvad man kunne ønske sig. Og frisk meget frisk. Fik også anvist parkering uden problemer. Kommer meget gerne igen. Bus til Funchal lige udenfor døren.

Solo Female Traveller

I will cover the inevitable restrictions relating to travel during a global pandemic first of all. I booked this holiday very last minute after taking a COVID test in the uk to ensure it was safe for me to travel. If you haven’t had one within 72 hours of flying you will be tested at the airport. My test was 5 days prior to flying so I had to be tested again. The airport is extremely efficient and very well organised but you must ensure that you complete the travel to Madeira on line forms before setting off as you will need the QR code once you have passed through passport control. Masks must be worn at all times during the flight and at both the UK and Madeira airports as well as during the transfer and when in public areas within the hotel. On arrival at the hotel I was greeted by a friendly team on reception who explained that I would be shown to my room, given access to WiFi etc but would not be able to leave until I had received either a text message or email confirming a clear test result. This took less than 12 hours. Don’t be tempted to leave the room before as you will not be able to re enter as the key card is not fully activated until you receive the all clear for COVID. Your evening meal on day one is likely to be in your room and they will ring your room for your order before hand. One of the biggest restrictions in place surrounds the food and if you are particularly fussy or a vegetarian you must read this part. I was half board plus which included buffet breakfast and evening meal with either wine local beer or a soft drink and water. The reality was quite different. Firstly you have to select a time slot for both breakfast and evening meal at the point of check in. I chose breakfast between 07:30 and 08:30 and evening meal between 06:45 and 07:30. This was a little annoying but I get the reasons behind it, reduced number of tables. Etc. Yes it was a buffet breakfast however it is not help yourself. You stand in line until a member of either the kitchen staff or waiting staff invite you forward. You select a plate and they walk around the buffet with you, placing what you have selected on your plate. This took away some of the enjoyment as I like to have a look round and then go back to select what has taken my fancy. Saying that there was a very good choice of local bread, cereal, dried fruit and nuts, cooked meat, cheese, salad items,fresh fruit and cooked items including made to order omelettes. Tea or coffee and water or orange juice were served at your table. The evening meal is where you might encounter problems, especially for any vegetarians out there. It is NOT a buffet. It is a set menu with a a choice of 1 starter, 1 soup, choice of 3 mains of which one is fish and one meat plus a chefs special which 80% of the time was either fish, chicken, meat or game. Plus a tasing dessert. And this is where the problems start, during my 7 night stay I 50% of the soup soup were meat or fish based. 80% of the starters were meat or fish based and I believe I only saw 2 or 3 vegetarian friendly main course options out of the 21 main course dishes on offer throughout the week. I’m fairly sure not a single dish was suitable for vegans. And if you are there for 2 weeks the second week appears to be a repeat of the first. I am quite an adventurous eater and to be honest with exception of the squid, which in my opinion was massively overcooked the food was fresh, tasty and mostly enjoyable. Points were lost by having to book a time slot for meals as this took away the spontaneity of being able to eat as an when and not follow a regimented schedule. Onto the room. My room was clean, spacious, comfortable with a sea view terrace, twin beds, very effective air conditioning and a mini bar restocked daily if required. The items in the mini bar reasonably priced and room service is available if required. The beds are comfortable but the pillows are amongst the worst I have ever encountered ! The hotel is in a stunning location and you can use the facilities at the sister hotel next door. There is an outdoor pool at each, 1 indoor pool, a gym, yoga sessions and a lido style pool that I believe is sea water. There are plenty of sun beds and shaded areas. All public areas within the hotel are spotless and hand sanitiser is readily available. The small promenade is a few mins walk away and there are a couple of cafes, restaurants and a spar shop literally 2 mins away. If you want to see the island a hire car is an absolute must in my opinion although there is a bus stop close to the hotel. I was happy just chilling poolside with a book most of the time. The island is quite hilly with very steep streets so will will need a good pair of flat shoes if you do plan on walking anywhere. For those with limited mobility this is not the place for you. I personally had a fantastic week and would happily return when things are back to normal.

Good hotel

Very clean hotel Nice breakfast Very good facilities : 3 pools and sea access Excellent fitness center Good WiFi connection A pity that a part of the staff doesn’t speak English (but German)! Need to pay at arrival: not a good way to welcome customers!

Salt water pool cleaned everyday down by the Atlantic

We upgraded our room to a suite. Loads of space and 2 sunny balconies with a view of the sea. Buffet meals were of a good standard. Served by a local bus service to Funchal, which doesn't necessarily run to time table.. Gyms and spas which I didn't use. Yoga classes tend to be early in the morning.

Guided Walking Holiday

We arranged our air & tour through Walkers World of Toronto and HFTravel of GB arranged the guides and routes. Our 12 day stay at the Hotel Galosol could not have been better: great room with an ocean view and comfortable beds. Hotel staff at all levels were professional and personable and no difficulties with language. Breakfast and dinner buffet were varied and very, very good. A 2 minute walk to the bus stop for a 20 minute ride into the capital of Funchal. There is an large and well equipped exercise room, sauna and small indoor pool. There is a larger outdoor pool and with a short walk you can swim in a salt water pool or dip in the ocean. There are NO beaches in Madeira
