Comfortable Stay

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in early September. The hotel is situated on the paralia and convenient to everything – a short walk enables access to the ferries, to bus station, to shops, to restaurants and bars and beaches. The hotel has around 32 rooms in two joined blocks of Cycladic style. The ground floor is made over to reception, a bar, some soft seating and a breakfast/restaurant area. There are also rooms on the ground floor. Our room was on the first floor, reached via a staircase and past outdoor seating areas, we had specifically requested a sea view. This room was worth the extra charge – not only for the view, but for the decently sized wrap-around balcony with a table and chairs and which allowed sitting in shade or sun. The room was generously sized but it was a triple with partially made up a third bed. Although the hotel is on the main road with traffic moving back and forth we really did not experience any noise from the outside. There was no inter-room noise and very little from the corridor. We reached the hotel by sea-taxi from Parikia in Paros – although there is a car ferry from Pounda in Paros. The hotel has a private car park. With luggage the hotel is five minutes’ walk away from the sea-taxi jetty and ten minutes from the car ferry. The room was clean, comfortable and with efficient air-conditioning but it was decidedly Greek. It had a small desk with chair, a generous wardrobe (with lots of hangers) a safe and a full size fridge. The bed linen was satisfactory and was changed during our stay. Housekeeping was very good but did need to be ordered. The bathroom was initially unprepossessing but worked perfectly well. Not least because the wash-hand basin is outside the bathroom. Soap and shower gel/shampoo were provided and of good quality. Towels were OK. Wifi was fine. Aircon was very efficient. During our stay breakfast was taken outside in a space also available to the general public. Breakfast is either a basic buffet which for us was additional to our accommodation or a separate, chargeable a la carte selection of superior quality which was also available to non-guests. The restaurant is open to the public at 08:00 but to guests at 08:30. The Restaurant continues an a la carte brunch and lunches till mid-afternoon. There is no evening restaurant but there is a bar. Staff were helpful, all had good English. From what we observed there were no tour groups. Guests with mobility problems might have some difficulties accessing parts of the hotel but we are sure the hotel can advise on this. The cost of our stay was quite reasonable.

Overall our favorite place to stay for location. ambiance , and value . Wonderful

Lovely hotel with friendly staff. We had the room with a balcony overlooking the water. Location is perfect and in walking distance to many restaurants and a grocery. The ferry is only a short distance away. Well worth the stay.

Great location, family run.

The Mantelena Hotel is literally a short walk along the promenade, you can't miss it, get off the ferry, turn right, and walk for 5-7 minutes. I only arrived here yesterday, the hotel is very relaxed, and the breakfast is amazing. I ate the most delicious home made fig marmalade (I usually do not eat marmalade), but this is not your usual marmalade, I loved it. The melon has a delicate taste to the it, as if its been marinaded, not sure what it is yet, as I have not yet asked, but it tastes lovely. You can eat your breakfast if you choose, while looking out to the harbour, or have your coffee or juice doing so, after your breakfast. My room is more than adequate for two people (I'm travelling on my own) but not massive, but does the job. I have a small side balcony, which is fine. There is also a wide balcony on the first floor, with tables and chairs and umbrellas, facing out to the sea and across to Paros, its beautiful (I will post a photo of the view). I travelled from Naxos via Paros, and if you're coming from Paros, you might want to take the short ferry hop from Pounda port, it is 1.50 euro per person. You take a bus (around 12-15 minutes) to Pounda port, cost 1.80 euro. There is a little ticket office at the bus station. You might have to wait for half an hour or so for the Pounda bus, but you might be lucky and catch it sooner. (The small pavement cafe directly opposite the bus station is quite expensive, and they seem to charge you more for sitting at the pavement tables, so I would advise checking their prices first). If you are getting the ferry to Paros, as you get off the ferry (you have your back to the ferry), turn right and walk a short distance along the promenade and you will reach the bus station, its basically a small stone building and a few bus spaces. There are ferries from Paroikia, but I have not used them and they take longer, and are a little more expensive. At the time that I and another tourist arrived, there did not appear to be a ferry from Paroikia, but I can't be sure. It's mid-September, weather is currently around 25-27 degrees (it's almost 11am), and there is currently a cooling breeze. The nightlife is bustling (nowhere near chaotic), and there is a chilled vibe. There are beaches within walking distance of the hotel, to the left and the right. Enjoy your travels. Matt

Simplicity is all you need!

The staff are awesome and the rooms are clean and comfortable. A stones throw for the main shopping street and platia and simple access to ferry, beaches and transport. My only challenge is that the room is tiny and bathroom fit for lean people
