This hotel has a positive vibe to it.
Steps from St. George beach and 15 mins walk to the port. The hotel is a well taken care of family run business. Reception is efficient and available. Breakfast is decent. Despite the fact that it’s a modern hotel, the wifi needs a boost. Almost impossible to browse the net most of the time. Pillows need an upgrade too.
Cozy boutique hotel
Conclusion: Cozy boutique hotel located close to the city center and the beach in a quiet area. The rooms are small but really cozy. I can come back. Review: I stayed 3 nights at Argo boutique hotel on Naxos. I have asked the hotel to set up a transfer from the airport, which was EUR 15. It is the same price, if you take a taxi from the airport, and there are only a few taxis in the airport. The drive from the airport takes 5 min. The port is 15 min walk from the hotel. The check in was a little bit strange, because you have to check in on your mobil in a 3rd party webpage. It took some time. The hotel has rooms in different buildings, but they are located close to each other. The rooms are small, but they are really cosy, I have booked a Jason room with rooftop terrasse and spa. It was a really nice, it is was brand new. The Jason room was worth the money. The hotel has a small pool with a few sun-beds, but you will not need them, because a wonderful beach is only 5 min away. 2 sun-beds and umbrella is EUR 10 on the beach. Breakfast are served in the pool area. but due to Covid-19 you have to decide, which time you will have breakfast, which was not the best experience for me, because some days i woke up at 7 am and others at 9 am. The breakfast was ok, but not the best. From the hotel you have 10 min walk to the city center, where you will find a lot of restaurants and bars. It is really cozy and relaxed city,
Good but not great!
So there are several points to mention from our four day stay at the Argo. Firstly the rooms are lovely, we had two ground floor rooms for our family and they were side by side. Perfect, clean, cool and comfy. The reception staff are also very helpful and friendly. The bar is handy but a bit strange, we came back after dinner one night and took us ages to get a drink, everyone had disappeared, however it was late. Can’t tell what time the bar closes. The café freddos are great. The WiFi is AWFUL, hardly any connection even on the ground floor near reception. Super slow and pretty much useless. This would 100% need to be rectified for this hotel to keep up with modern 2020 demands. The pool and spa were nice and we used both. The BEST part of the hotel for us was the location. The beach is literally round the corner. Would I stay again if in Naxos? yes probably. Would I recommend the hotel? Yes. Overall an enjoyable stay.
The Argo is a typical Naxian boutique hotel – small, comfortably appointed, close enough to the beach and with a sea view in some rooms. Helpful, courteous staff, and our room was modern, well-appointed and enjoyed a reasonably-sized balcony with a distant sea view. (Our son and daughter-in-law reported that their non-sea view room needed a refresh – but I didn’t see that for myself…) Breakfast is standard Greek hotel fare – delicious and encouraging me to eat too much! Two major gripes, though: first, the internet in our room was almost non-existent. Down at reception, it was quick enough, but who wants to pad around a hotel’s public spaces in pyjamas while trying to pick up email or send pictures to family via email? I also developed an acute problem with my business back home, which needed fast internet access for a very short while – again, off to reception to solve the problem. It’s my view that any modern hotel that does not offer fast, reliable internet in-room needs a health warning. Second, come sleep time, when we turned the lights off, a small night light came on in one of the ordinary light fittings. Brilliant, perhaps, if you have small children or are scared of the dark. Awful if you want full black-out. The problem was solved by removing the key tag from its socket (which is needed to activate the lights and air-conditioning) – but that also turns off all the power sockets – not much use if you’re charging camera batteries or cell phones or tablets, etc. Net result: on with an airline ‘sleep mask’, which I find very uncomfortable. On balance, if I was offered the chance to come back here, I’d think twice about it because of these problems. I can’t comment on price/value for money as this was part of a package bought for us from an Athens travel agent.
We have stayed at the Argo so many times over the last twenty years that if feels like going home. From the early days when welcomed by Katerina and Apostolis to the excellent newly refurbished boutique style by Anna and Stelios. So pleased to see Katerina supervising the most wonderful Greek breakfast every morning with a choice to suit every taste. Kyriaki,Chrysa and Alexander at reception are all very kind and helpful. We look forward to our next visit.
